We have several adventure activities we are planning as we travel throughout the North Island of New Zealand in our motorhome this Summer. As we approached Gisborne it was time for us to book ourselves in for one of them, Railbiking. Now if the thought of riding a bicycle along a diused railway line raises questions of balance in your mind, how about doing it on a tandem bicycle? Don't worry, Geoff, our guide and owner of Gisborne Railbike Adventure, has it sorted with his custom designed side by side Railbikes. Travelling the 'Steel Road' is just a matter of jumping on your Railbike with a friend and pedalling. There are three tours available and our half day, 32 kilometre return, 'Beach Loop' Railbike tour was brilliant.

Any suggestion that the cyclones earlier this year have shut Gisborne down or isolated it from the rest of New Zealand are nonsense. Gisborne is definitely open for business.
